Kindiki leads race to be Ruto's running mate in new InfoTrak survey

As political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to take shape, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has emerged as the leading choice to remain President William Ruto's running mate, opening a clear gap over other leaders being considered for the position, a new Infotrak survey shows.

The poll ranks released on Monday, ranks Kindiki first with a 34 per cent approval rating, making him the most preferred candidate nationally to deputise President Ruto. The findings place him well ahead of other leaders drawn from different regions of the country.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga follows in second place with 11 per cent support, while Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga ranks third after attracting 9 per cent.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula are tied at 2 per cent each in the national ranking.

The survey also paints a picture of strong regional preferences, with respondents largely backing leaders from their own regions as President Ruto's possible running mate.

In the Mt. Kenya region, Prof. Kindiki enjoys the strongest backing, with 41 per cent of respondents saying they would prefer him to deputise the President. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru emerged as the second most preferred candidate from the region.

In Nyanza, Governor Gladys Wanga was the top choice among respondents, followed by Senator Oburu Odinga.

Respondents in the Western region preferred Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as President Ruto's running mate, with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula coming in second.

At the Coast, Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho emerged as the region's most preferred candidate, while Prof. Kindiki ranked second.

The Infotrak findings show that while regional leaders continue to command strong support in their political strongholds, Prof. Kindiki remains the leading choice nationally as President Ruto's preferred running mate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
