KNUT officials from the Rift Valley say the affected teachers had already chosen KNUT as their union and should not have been shifted to another organisation without their consent.
Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) chairman Christopher Kambi said the proposed punishment for running an unregistered school was too severe and called for a process that gives those accused an opportunity to respond before facing heavy penalties.

Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang’ and Seme MP James Nyikal have demanded evidence from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula after he alleged that some MPs receive TSC employment letters that could be used to help constituents—and that some may be sold to jobseekers.

Teachers in Grades C2 and C3 are among those receiving the biggest pay rise, with Secondary Teacher I officers in Grade C3 benefiting from the highest monthly increase of Sh2,055. Deputy Principals II will receive the lowest adjustment of Sh693.
The association says that by the second term of 2026, schools had received only 56 per cent of the funds expected for the year, leaving institutions with a funding gap equivalent to 24 per cent of the annual allocation per learner. The government currently provides Sh22,244 per student each year.
