The dentists' body said the scope of clinical dental practice cannot be changed through administrative publications or circulars without first going through the required legislative process. It added that any changes touching on dental care should involve public participation and consultations with professionals because they directly affect the safety of patients.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Nairobi County hospital said it had reviewed the matter after the allegations attracted public attention, but maintained that the available records did not substantiate the accusations.
The move is intended to strengthen accountability, speed up the processing of attestation requests, improve access for practitioners and patients, and advance its broader digital transformation agenda aimed at delivering transparent, reliable and efficient regulatory services
According to the Council, the registration exercise is intended to strengthen pre-hospital healthcare services, improve emergency response standards and support the rollout of services funded through the Social Health Authority’s Emergency, Critical Care and Chronic Illness Fund.
Healthcare facilities were also instructed to confirm the identity, academic qualifications and licensing status of every doctor issuing radiology reports before engaging their services.
In a statement issued on Saturday, KMPDC said it has opened a formal inquiry into the conduct of the medical practitioner allegedly involved in the incident and pledged action against any person found responsible.
2026 Economic Survey places the number of active health facilities at 16,713 in 2025, compared to 15,974 in the previous year. Registration and oversight of these facilities is handled by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
According to KMPDU, the council has neglected its primary role of regulating practitioners and handling cases of medical misconduct, leaving both patients and doctors unprotected.
KMA and KDA cited allegations relating to the fraudulent registration of non-compliant or fictitious health facilities under the Social Health Authority (SHA), as well as the irregular licensure of individuals with suspect or unverified qualifications.
KMPDC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David G. Kariuki called on affected facilities to forward certified copies of all relevant ownership, governance and licensing documents for review.
KMPDC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected unlicensed practitioners, illegal facilities or repeated cases of adverse patient outcomes to support effective regulation and public safety.
