KMPDC to move medical certificate attestation fully online from August 3, 2026

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) will transition from manual to fully online medical certificate attestation, with full implementation of the new system set to begin on August 3, 2026.

The regulator says the move is intended to strengthen accountability, speed up the processing of attestation requests, improve access for practitioners and patients, and advance its broader digital transformation agenda aimed at delivering transparent, reliable and efficient regulatory services.

In a public notice issued and signed by Chief Executive Officer and Registrar Dr David G. Kariuki, on Thursday, KMPDC said the transition period will run from July 20 to July 31, 2026, after which the online platform will become the sole channel for processing medical certificate attestations.

The council said that from August 3, all medical certificate attestations will be handled exclusively through the online platform, bringing the manual attestation process to an end.

"The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council wishes to inform all stakeholders that it is transitioning from the manual attestation of medical certificates to a fully online attestation system. The transition phase will run from July 20 to July 31, 2026, with full implementation taking effect on August 3, 2026. From this date, all medical certificate attestations will be processed exclusively through the online platform." KMPDC stated.

KMPDC explained that access to the new service will be restricted to practitioners who meet its regulatory requirements.

"The online attestation service will only be available through the online service practitioner portal to licensed medical practitioners who are in good standing with the Council."

The council outlined that the shift to digital processing is intended to improve the management of medical certificate attestations while supporting its wider efforts to modernise service delivery.

It noted that the transition is expected to "strengthen ownership and accountability in the medical certification process, improve accessibility for practitioners and patients, enhance efficiency through faster processing of attestation requests, and advance KMPDC's commitment to digitising and automating its services for greater transparency, reliability and service excellence."

The regulator also elaborated that the online platform forms part of its continued efforts to automate services and make them more efficient for both healthcare professionals and members of the public who rely on medical certification.

The council also appealed to stakeholders to support the migration to the new system during the transition period, saying assistance will be available where needed.

The transition represents a significant change in the way medical certificate attestations will be processed in Kenya, with the council positioning the online platform as a key step towards faster, more transparent and reliable regulatory services.

Once fully implemented in August, licensed medical practitioners in good standing will be required to use the online practitioner portal for all attestation requests.
