The Senate Health Committee, led by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, is now seeking a detailed account of the events surrounding the delivery and the treatment the babies received before reaching KNH.
The operation, known as coronary artery bypass graft surgery, is performed to improve blood supply to the heart when the coronary arteries are unable to deliver enough blood.
According to the statement by the hospital on Wednesday, the babies were born at an extremely premature gestational age of 25 weeks and had critically low birth weights, presenting significant clinical challenges from the time of admission.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the national referral hospital said it reviewed available patient and maternity records after the allegations emerged online but could not verify the account.
The bodies were admitted between April 2025 and February 2026, according to the notice. The list mainly contains adult men, but also has women and a number of bodies whose identities have not been established.
KNH CEO Dr Richard Lesiyampe said the hospital had seen more patients who would ordinarily receive treatment at county facilities and other hospitals near their homes.
Advocate Samwel Muiruri has challenged both Lesiyampe’s appointment and his continued occupation of the position, arguing that the process may have breached constitutional and legal requirements governing senior public appointments.
The county said the bodies were admitted under different circumstances, with the list including deaths recorded as natural, sudden, accidents, suspected murder, drowning, mob injustice and unknown causes, among others.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the hospital’s Senior Director, Clinical Services, Dr. Joel Lessan, KNH clarified that the bullet recovered during medical management was retained and preserved as part of the relevant medical and evidentiary records.
Moreen, a mother of one from Pipeline Estate, died on Friday at Kenyatta National Hospital after four days of treatment.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, KNH said it had already taken action on the issues identified and that none remained unresolved in the current financial year.
