The Kenya Transporters Association, in a letter dated Wednesday, April 8, 2026, has called for urgent intervention from key institutions in the energy sector, including the Government of Kenya, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the Kenya Pipeline Company, and oil marketing companies.
EPRA highlighted preliminary investigations indicating that some companies are deliberately withholding petroleum supplies from non-franchised retailers, commonly known as independents, in anticipation of future price increases.

The authority said Oketch, who currently heads the Electricity and Renewable Energy Directorate, brings over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, while the board assured stakeholders of continued stability and effective regulation despite the leadership transition.
According to reports, the officials were arrested on April 2, 2026, by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
EPRA also tested fuel at retail outlets, taking 10,598 samples from 2,305 stations across the country.
The authority said the pricing decision was made in accordance with the Petroleum Act 2019 and existing petroleum pricing regulations that guide the calculation of maximum retail fuel prices in the country.
EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo said the authority is monitoring developments closely and is in constant communication with suppliers to ensure shipments continue without disruption.
The tariff adjustments, gazetted on Friday, February 13, come as part of the routine review process, but the changes carry tangible effects for consumers amid already high living expenses.
Northern and more remote areas, however, will continue to face higher fuel costs due to added transport expenses. For instance, Mandera will record petrol at Sh200.41, diesel at Sh188.72, and kerosene at Sh174.80.
