Speaking on Radio Generation on Wednesday, Njiru said residents affected by the refinery and the wider Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor projects must be involved in decisions concerning their land and livelihoods, arguing that communities hosting major investments should also have a share in the benefits.
In Komgala, 102 cows were reported killed, while Nengardedi recorded 243 cows, 116 goats and 29 donkeys. Another 287 cows and 54 donkeys were reported killed at Lake Lash, while 132 cows died in Kapuru.
The Panel has also settled 139 claims involving verified economic losses, with small and informal business owners among those affected by disruptions linked to demonstrations, public protests and related incidents.
The verification exercise will run from September 8 to October 29 and will cover officers whose cases are linked specifically to demonstrations, public protests and riots that occurred between January 1, 2013 and June 2, 2025.
The extension comes after the panel had already processed 680 legitimate claims and paid Sh896.1 million to victims by August, including people affected by demonstrations and public protests.
The payment amounts to about Sh353 million per family, on top of approximately Sh188 million that each family had reportedly received earlier.
