Norway gives parents up to 12 months of parental leave

Norway offers parents 49 or 59 weeks of paid parental leave, depending on the payment rate, plus three weeks for the mother before birth. The leave is split between the mother’s and father’s quotas, with a remaining period that either parent can use.

Mothers must take six weeks after childbirth, while fathers are entitled to two weeks immediately after birth.

Each parent may also take up to one additional year of leave after the child’s first year
