Fresh hope for new students as HELB opens 2026/27 loan and scholarship applications

Students set to join universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions can now begin seeking government financial support after the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) opened applications for first-time loans and scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The announcement, made on Friday, July 10, clears the way for eligible learners to submit their applications through the HELB application portal after weeks of waiting for the funding window to be launched.

“Eligible first-time applicants can now submit their applications for the HELB 2026/2027 Undergraduate and TVET loans and scholarships,” the notice stated.

The application exercise is meant for students enrolling in undergraduate degree programmes and TVET institutions for the first time in the upcoming academic year.

HELB called on applicants to submit their requests as early as possible and carefully follow the application guidelines to help ensure their applications are processed without unnecessary delays.

The opening of the portal marks the start of the funding application process for thousands of students preparing to begin their studies in higher learning institutions during the 2026/2027 academic year.

More details are expected to follow.
