President William Ruto in 2025 declared August 27 an annual Katiba Day to mark the promulgation of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
“Katiba” is the Swahili word for constitution. The day commemorates the historic adoption of the Constitution on August 27, 2010, which introduced devolution, strengthened human rights and placed citizens at the centre of governance.
