England head coach Thomas Tuchel is expected to remain in charge of the national team after receiving the full backing of the Football Association, despite the Three Lions' 2-1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina on Wednesday.

The loss ended England's hopes of reaching a first World Cup final since 1966, with Tuchel coming under criticism after his side surrendered a 1-0 lead late in the match.

However, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has reaffirmed the association's confidence in the German coach, who is expected to lead England into Euro 2028, which will be co-hosted by England, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Tuchel, whose contract runs until after the home European Championship, said he remains committed to the job.

"We keep on going with the contract until the home Euros," Tuchel told the media on Wednesday after the heartbreaking defeat.

England will now face France in Saturday's third-place playoff, with victory securing their best men's World Cup finish since lifting the trophy in 1966.

Tuchel signed a two-year contract extension in February, having been appointed in January 2025 on an 18-month mission to win the World Cup.
