Three MCAs have joined Ndindi Nyoro’s People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) in a fresh boost for the Kiharu MP as he moves to build the party after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The leaders are Kiuu Ward MCA Zack Macharia, Kiambu MCA Winnie Wambui and Ruchu Ward MCA Naomi Nyambura, all of whom have moved from UDA to Nyoro’s new political outfit.

Nyoro confirmed the arrival of Macharia and Wambui, saying the two county lawmakers from Kiambu had formally crossed over to PPK.

“Today we have received Members of the County Assembly from Kiambu County to the People’s Party; Hon Zack Macharia - Current MCA, Kiuu (Githurai 45), Ruiru Constituency and Winnie Wambui - Kiambu MCA,” Nyoro said.

“Both have defected from the Wheelbarrow party UDA,” he added.

The Kiharu MP later announced that Nyambura had also joined the party, adding to the growing list of leaders aligning themselves with his new political movement.

“Today we have received Hon Naomi Nyambura, Ruchu Ward MCA, to the People’s Party,” he said.

Nyoro described Nyambura as a “vibrant leader” and pointed out that she currently serves as the Chairperson of the Education Committee at the Murang’a County Assembly.

The entry of the three MCAs comes shortly after Nyoro made a major change in his political career by leaving UDA and taking over the leadership of PPK.

He announced his exit from the ruling party on August 18 at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, bringing to an end a period of uncertainty over his political plans.

Nyoro said his decision was driven by his concerns about the government’s record, including the country’s public debt and the growing challenge of meeting the expectations of Kenyans.

Following his departure, the Kiharu MP has said he will engage with politicians from different sides of the political divide as he pushes for greater cooperation among opposition leaders before the 2027 General Election.

The three MCAs now give PPK a presence in Kiambu and Murang’a counties as Nyoro begins efforts to widen the party’s support beyond his Kiharu constituency.

Nyoro has also made it clear that joining PPK will come with conditions for some politicians. He has said leaders who have insulted opposition figures will have to apologise and make amends before they can be admitted into the party.

The latest move marks an early expansion of Nyoro’s political network as he works to position PPK ahead of the 2027 elections.
