Three men suspected of being behind a string of violent robberies in Westlands and other parts of Nairobi have been arrested after detectives carried out an intelligence-led operation in Kawangware that also led to the recovery of a pistol and two motorcycles believed to have been used during the crimes.
The suspects were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters Operation Action Team (OAT) following investigations that tracked their alleged movements and identified their suspected roles in the reported robberies before officers moved in.
In a statement issued on Friday, the DCI said the operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of a Retay Falcon pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
"A team of detectives from the DCI Headquarters Operation Action Team (OAT) have arrested three notorious robbery suspects linked to a string of violent robberies in Westlands and other parts of Nairobi and recovered a Retay Falcon pistol."
The agency said detectives mounted the operation along Ngina Road in Kawangware after intelligence gathered during the investigations pointed them to one of the suspects.
"Following painstaking investigations that meticulously pieced together the suspects' criminal trail, detectives conducted an intelligence-led operation along Ngina Road in Kawangware and arrested Nimrod Khayeshe, alias Buba."
According to the DCI, Khayeshe later led detectives to two other suspects believed to have been working with him in the alleged robbery incidents.
"Upon interrogation, the suspect led detectives to his accomplices, Vangelis Njungi, aka Vangi and Patrick Kingato, who were swiftly arrested."
During the operation, detectives also recovered what they described as key exhibits that are expected to support the ongoing investigations.
The DCI said officers seized "a Retay Falcon pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition."
Investigators also recovered two motorcycles bearing registration numbers KMGT 497W and KMHG 829H, which detectives believe were used by the suspects as getaway motorcycles after carrying out the alleged robberies.
The three suspects remain in police custody as detectives complete processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The recovered pistol and the two motorcycles have been retained as exhibits while investigations continue.
The DCI said the arrests demonstrate its continued reliance on intelligence-led operations to track down suspected criminals and disrupt organised criminal activities across the country.
The agency also appealed to members of the public to continue sharing information that can help detectives prevent and investigate crime, urging residents to report incidents anonymously through its toll-free hotline and WhatsApp reporting channels to support efforts aimed at improving public safety.
