The 23-year-old, who is the son of the late MCA Julius Kipruto Keter, secured a commanding victory, reinforcing UDA’s strong presence in the region. Rutto collected 3,999 votes, leaving his competitors far behind in the race for the vacant seat.
After the vote count was completed, the commission declared Mpusia the winner with 2,805 votes. Sanare followed with 1,522 votes, while Naikuni finished with 298 votes.
The DP team accused Kiruga of wearing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party colours inside the polling station, which they described as an unlawful act.
UDA criticised attempts to link state agencies to the claims of interference, insisting that officers on the ground were only performing their duty to secure the exercise. The party urged Kenyans not to be swayed by talk meant to create suspicion around agencies tasked with protecting voters.
Speaking on Sunday during a campaign tour in Kivue, where he drummed up support for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende (Leo), Kindiki said the constituency should not be turned into a battleground for individuals seeking to settle political scores after losing government positions.
The announcement was made on Sunday in Kakamega, where Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi personally received Manyasi into the UDA camp, triggering intense speculation just days before voters head to the polls.
The DP said Leo has demonstrated a notable grasp of key issues affecting residents, including roads, water, electricity, education, and other matters of importance to Mbeere North voters.
Addressing residents at Kanyuambora on Thursday while campaigning for UDA candidate Leonard Wamuthende Leo, Kindiki accused the opposition of courting voters with “empty rhetoric” instead of genuine development plans.
Speaking on Wednesday during a campaign tour in Muthanthara and Kirie, DP Kindiki urged residents to vote for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende Leo in next week’s by-election, noting that Leo would be better positioned to advocate for faster project completion.
Kindiki, who is leading campaigns for UDA candidate Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende, claimed some opposition figures had resorted to incitement to destabilise the area during the election period.
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, speaking after recording a statement at the station, said the party had received what it considers credible intelligence indicating plans to transport groups of youths into the constituency to instigate violence during the event.
