Budget documents tabled in the National Assembly show the National Intelligence Service (NIS) recording the highest upward revision of Sh3.5 billion, increasing its allocation to Sh64.9 billion.
An update on the Performance Contract for FY 2025/2026 indicated satisfactory progress across the majority of performance indicators.
Appearing before the Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni explained that the funds were withdrawn under Article 223 of the Constitution and must now be formally approved through Supplementary Estimates No.1 for the 2025/26 financial year.
The MP said the allocation would translate to about Sh24 million per vehicle and warned that public officials should exercise restraint in government expenditure.
Budget documents indicate that the electoral agency’s spending on the “purchase of vehicles and other transport equipment” has jumped from Sh5.6 million in the original estimates to Sh174.2 million in the revised figures. The increase places the commission among State agencies receiving the largest rise in vehicle-related allocations.
A data recovery centre is used to restore information that may be lost, damaged, deleted by mistake, or become inaccessible due to system failures. The planned facility will help ensure that the authority can retrieve important data and continue operations with minimal interruption whenever technical problems arise.
In the 2024-25 financial year, the Kenya Revenue Authority recorded Sh73.2 billion in levy receipts, surpassing the National Treasury’s earlier projection of Sh63.2 billion.
The original budget had set aside Sh16 billion for the project, highlighting a major increase to accommodate ongoing construction and preparatory activities.
The move follows the approval of the second supplementary budget and suggests there will be no third budget tabled this financial year.
