Lawmakers in Kenya’s Parliament reviewed a proposed US-supported Ebola isolation facility in Nanyuki after comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised sovereignty concerns. Health CS Aden Duale said Kenya retains authority and the facility would serve Kenyans when necessary.
Achoka said Kenya needs a structured national dialogue to ensure governance choices reflect the lived realities of citizens. He argued that the idea of national interest should not be separated from public welfare.
The Cabinet concluded that the decision was adopted “in accordance with the supreme national interest of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” underscoring the government’s position that safeguarding sovereignty and unity remains paramount.
President Hassan also stressed the importance of peaceful dialogue with Somaliland,noting Somalia’s continued commitment to negotiation to preserve national cohesion.
The latest refusal adds to the escalating diplomatic standoff between the two countries, revealing the fragility of regional cooperation amid unresolved territorial disputes.
