In a notice on Tuesday, the authority said the directive affects sections of the Likoni-Ukunda-Lunga Lunga (A7), Kilifi-Malindi-Garsen-Witu (A7), Maili Tisa-Kitale (B14) and Eldoret-Nyaru (B124) roads.
According to the authority, the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to make the highway safer by reducing accidents and improving the movement of traffic along the busy corridor.
The Authority reminded the public that it is empowered under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 (Sections 49 and 50) to regulate roadside developments and remove unauthorized installations from road reserves. The latest directive applies to a wide range of violations, including makeshift stalls, permanent structures, and billboards that are unapproved or have expired.
Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria said the persistent habit of throwing garbage from vehicles and along road reserves, as well as the use of unauthorised waste collectors, is at the heart of the garbage problem that is contributing to flooding during rains.
