In North-western counties such as Turkana and Samburu, mornings are expected to be predominantly sunny. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop in the afternoons, with nights remaining partly cloudy. Daytime temperatures could rise to 37°C, while nighttime lows may dip to around 10°C.
The report shows that the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley belt, coastal zones, northeastern counties, and the southeastern lowlands will continue to experience showers during the forecast period. These rains are expected at various times of the day in different locations.
In the western and central highlands, counties such as Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot will also experience continuous rains and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures in these areas will reach 31°C, while minimums are expected to fall to 8°C.
Along the Coast, widespread showers are forecast across Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Tana River. Some areas, especially southern Kwale and parts of Kilifi, could exceed 100mm, creating an elevated risk of flooding in poorly drained and low-lying areas.
Charles Mugah from the department explained that the forecast is influenced by a developing negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), expected to last from September through November before neutralizing in December.
Cloudy and chilly weather will occasionally affect the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-Eastern Lowlands, and sections of the Rift Valley.
Residents in the affected areas were cautioned to prepare for flash floods, poor visibility, and related risks.
In its weekly forecast, the department said residents in the Central Highlands, Western and parts of the North-western region should expect intensified rainfall
On the other hand, parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya will remain dry and hot during the day. T
Residents living along the Coast, in the south-eastern lowlands, and in north-western Kenya should prepare for gusts of wind that could cause damage to property and disrupt daily activities.
