“Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in parts of Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and West Pokot Counties,” the authority said in its forecast on Tuesday.
The department's latest outlook comes as meteorologists assess the role of ocean temperatures in determining the distribution and intensity of rainfall expected during the October-December period.
According to the seven-day forecast issued on Monday, September 14, rainfall is expected in parts of Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale and Laikipia.
In its weekly weather outlook issued on Tuesday, the department said weather conditions will vary across regions, with some areas likely to experience intermittent rainfall while others remain largely sunny and partly cloudy.
Meteorologists attribute the early-season rains to favorable atmospheric conditions, including enhanced convective activity linked to the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), which is expected to temporarily boost moisture and rainfall amounts in parts of the country during late February and early March.
