KMPDU Secretary General Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah said the payroll exercise was expected to begin on Saturday, August 29, paving the way for the release of the delayed salaries.
The move follows the government’s decision to absorb UHC workers into the public service after guidance from the Public Service Commission and other relevant agencies, with the new terms taking effect from July 1, 2026.
According to the Cabinet, the decision follows a comprehensive Government payroll audit that exposed widespread weaknesses in payroll governance across public institutions.

During last year’s national wage bill conference, officials had warned of mass layoffs targeting support staff, casual workers, and employees with fake academic certificates.
