Speaking during the ODM Nyanza Delegates Consultative Forum in Kisumu, Oburu said global events, including conflict in the Middle East, had contributed to the sharp rise in fuel prices. However, he maintained that the government could still ease the burden through tax adjustments.
Wetang’ula noted that ODM, now part of the broad-based government, is poised for renewed stability and growth following a brief period of uncertainty after the death of its leader Raila Odinga.
ODM leader Oburu Oginga warned members against defying party resolutions, condemned external interference from Azimio partners, and said ODM will now formally assert its independence from the coalition.
Oburu noted that some community members were unsure about the choice because Luo tradition often places a woman’s grave outside the main compound or at her husband’s home. Oburu explained that the only part of the process that differs is the exact burial spot, while all cultural steps required during a woman’s burial will still be followed.
Oburu has been deeply involved in national events in recent weeks. He was at the centre of preparations for the farewell of his younger brother, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died on October 15. As part of the funeral committee, he guided the organisation of the ceremonies, including arrangements for Raila’s burial at their family home in Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Siaya.
Senator Oburu urged mourners and security officers to ensure order and allow people to grieve peacefully.
The Senator confirmed that Raila will be laid to rest at the family plot in Nyamira Kango, alongside both his mother and father, contrary to reports suggesting he would be buried only next to his mother.
