The firm said the development was approved by Nairobi City County, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the National Construction Authority (NCA), and other relevant agencies.

The directive is part of the authority’s efforts to streamline operations under its new Integrated Environment Information Management System (ENVIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform, launched in July 2025.
Areas bordering the Kariobangi treatment works such as Kariobangi North, Dandora, Baba Dogo and Mathare are expected to be most directly affected.
In a statement, the Authority said the operation follows reports that some companies have continued manufacturing the outlawed bags despite the ban.
