To back his claims, Ruto compared the performance of SHA with that of NHIF, saying the new authority is releasing far more money to health facilities than its predecessor. According to the President, NHIF used to disburse about Sh5.6 billion every three months, while SHA is now paying approximately Sh12 billion every month.
Nairobi remains the strongest performer with 1,635,778 members, followed by Kiambu with 832,307 and Nakuru with 730,260. Mombasa stands at 704,375, while Kakamega closes the top five with 700,043 members.
Only 20% of Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities have been paid consistently this year, while billions remain unpaid from the old NHIF system, creating a crisis that threatens hospital operations nationwide.
Muchiri made the announcement during a consultative meeting convened by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
The committee had been established under Gazette Notice No. 4069 dated March 28, 2025.
