Mackenzie, together with Shallyne Temba, Kahindi Garama, Tom Mkonwe, Julius Luwali and Johnson Richard, faces 29 counts of manslaughter. The prosecution alleges that the six jointly caused the deaths of 29 people between January and July 2025 at Kwa Binzaro in Chakama Location, Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County. According to the prosecution, led by Counsel Martin Mbote, Wanyonyi unlawfully took the minor with the intent to deprive the child’s mother, Mispher Chepkenoi, of her lawful guardianship.
Emmanuel Chimezie Okwara was arraigned on Tuesday before Senior Resident Magistrate Gladys Ollimo, where he faced charges of trafficking in narcotic drugs contrary to Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act No. 4 of 1994, as amended in 2022.

The accused, Duke Nyamwaya, Juma Mwinyifaki, Michael Kariuki, Elijah Mbogo Gacog’u, James Ekiru, Abdulrehman Salad, and Abdirahman Abdi Kuno, allegedly trafficked 25 kilograms of methamphetamine, reportedly packed in whitish crystalline packets.
Investigating officer PC Isaac Njoroge told the court that officers recovered more narcotics and 11 mobile phones of different brands, including Redmi, Tecno, Itel, Samsung Galaxy, Vivo, and Oppo, from the suspects’ homes and workplaces. The magistrate approved forensic examination of all devices to establish communication links and possible connections to other suspects involved in the trafficking network.
Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo delivered the judgment after Principal Prosecution Counsel Barbara Sombo successfully demonstrated that Abdi had violated key provisions of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013.
However, upon review, the High Court found that this sentence was inconsistent with the law, which requires life imprisonment for such offenses.
