The Panel has also settled 139 claims involving verified economic losses, with small and informal business owners among those affected by disruptions linked to demonstrations, public protests and related incidents.
According to the statement, President William Ruto has already acted on the decision through Special Gazette Notice No. 259 dated January 5, 2025. The panel noted that this step demonstrates “the President’s strong commitment to the rule of law, constitutionalism, and respecting the authority and mandate of the Judiciary.”
Mutua stood by his earlier remarks, describing the sector as lawless and a daily threat to public safety.
Mutua is recognized as falling within the top 0.5% of legal scholars globally.
