As part of the Kakuzi Ag-Tech adoption strategy, the firm has established a fully-fledged Digital Agricultural Transformation Department to spearhead technology adoption and application across its operating fronts.
Figures from the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) show that Kenya harvested 53,968.16 tonnes of macadamia during the year, compared with 49,183 tonnes in 2024. The crop value rose by 73 per cent over the same period, with better farm gate prices playing a major role in the increase.
Speaking at the World Food Prize Foundation's DialogueNext Forum on Tuesday, Kagwe called on African countries to rethink their approach to agricultural exports and strengthen local processing industries before products reach international markets.
The operation, which spans 14 counties where macadamia is grown, is aimed at flushing out rogue traders and processors, protecting farmers from exploitation, and ensuring that only approved buyers operate within the value chain.
CS Kagwe said the agencies must act at once to support growers as Kenya’s macadamia sector continues to lose Sh2.88 billion a year to rising pest attacks.
Kenya has been striving to encourage processing of raw agricultural produce domestically as a way of improving returns to growers and creating jobs.
