In a notice on Tuesday, the authority said the directive affects sections of the Likoni-Ukunda-Lunga Lunga (A7), Kilifi-Malindi-Garsen-Witu (A7), Maili Tisa-Kitale (B14) and Eldoret-Nyaru (B124) roads.
The preparedness programme is being coordinated by Governor Sakaja and brings together the Nairobi County Government, national agencies and humanitarian organisations involved in roads, drainage and emergency response.
The Monday meeting brought together the Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), National Disaster Management teams and other partners involved in flood preparedness and response.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, KeNHA said it had become aware of fake employment contract letters being circulated by fraudsters who were misleading unsuspecting members of the public into believing they had secured jobs with the authority.
The roads are among the country's most important transport links, connecting Nairobi with the North Rift, Western Kenya and neighbouring East African countries. They also carry large volumes of passengers, fuel, agricultural produce, manufactured goods and other essential supplies every day.
The authority said the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate maintenance works on the affected stretch, with motorists expected to use the remaining open lanes throughout the construction period.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Authority said pedestrian safety remains a major concern, noting that pedestrians accounted for 38 per cent of all road traffic crashes recorded as of June 30, 2026.
The Auditor-General also noted that KeNHA ended June 2025 with current assets valued at Sh41.01 billion compared to current liabilities of Sh82.51 billion, leaving the authority with a negative working capital position of Sh41.49 billion. The report warns that such a position raises concerns about the agency's ability to meet its financial obligations when they fall due.
