Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Murkomen said at least 348 suspects had already been arrested as the government intensified security operations against what he described as organised criminal gangs behind the chaos witnessed in several parts of the country.

Murkomen said a national Election Security Preparedness Framework has already been completed, drawing lessons from past elections dating back to 1992. He said the framework focuses on electoral violence, misinformation, cyber threats, hotspot mapping, and stronger coordination between institutions involved in election management and security.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said inspections carried out in Wajir showed strong progress at the main celebration venue, supporting infrastructure, parade rehearsals, and presidential hosting facilities, with most major works expected to be completed between May 20 and 25.
The petition also challenges the legal route taken, stating that the National Police Service Act does not recognise such directives, but instead requires structured regulations developed jointly by the Cabinet Secretary and the Inspector General.
His remarks come after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen told the National Assembly Departmental Committee on National Security that some of the suspects linked to the attack had fled the country.

He warned that the release of suspects and alleged use of goons by politicians is fuelling insecurity, calling for stronger cooperation across institutions to restore order and uphold the rule of law nationwide.
Speaking on Radio Generation on Monday, he said it was contradictory for the Interior Ministry to make public accusations without demonstrating enforcement through arrests and prosecution.
