The claims cover civilian victims and uniformed officers who suffered various forms of harm, including aggravated, severe, moderate and minor injuries as well as economic losses arising from demonstrations and public protests.
Data from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) shows that 1,815 claims of human rights violations linked to protests were documented, with 1,101 victims verified across six categories for possible compensation.
The verification exercise will run from September 8 to October 29 and will cover officers whose cases are linked specifically to demonstrations, public protests and riots that occurred between January 1, 2013 and June 2, 2025.
The party also praised its supporters for peaceful June 25 commemorations, calling for restraint by security agencies, and encouraged victims of past human rights violations to pursue reparations
In a public notice issued Friday, the Commission reminded Kenyans that April 3 marks the deadline for submitting cases to be included in the initial list of victims.
In a press statement issued on April 1, 2026, the Commission said the initiative stems from a presidential request made through Gazette Notice No. 3114 of March 6, 2026, pursuant to Article 254(2) of the Constitution.
