The move is designed to help healthcare providers maintain uninterrupted services as the festive season approaches. It is part of SHA’s ongoing efforts to improve claim accuracy and streamline facility contract management under the Social Health Insurance system.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale explained that the ministry’s strategy includes launching a national Reproductive-Age Mortality Survey to capture accurate data on the causes and scale of deaths among women of reproductive age. In addition, the Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) system will be fully digitized and rigorously applied, while stricter clinical standards will be enforced in all health facilities.
The move is aimed at strengthening transparency and ensuring members are not overcharged or inconvenienced due to billing errors.
KMPDC CEO David Kariuki said most affected facilities were either unregistered or unlicensed, employed practitioners without proper registration, or operated below minimum medical standards.
