In a press statement read by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, the leaders claimed Kenya’s energy value chain had been turned into “a criminal enterprise,” linking recent fuel price increases to alleged manipulation of government-to-government oil arrangements and emergency procurement processes.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya warned that fuel prices rising above Sh200 per litre were placing severe pressure on households and businesses.
Northern Kenya continues to record the highest fuel prices. In Lodwar, super petrol is Sh213.93, diesel Sh213.72, and kerosene Sh159.90, driven by the cost of transporting fuel to remote and arid areas.
The Kenya Transporters Association has ordered immediate freight rate reviews after a Sh40 diesel price jump lifted operating costs by about 13–14%, following EPRA’s latest fuel price review.
In the review released on April 14, 2026, EPRA said the new pump prices will take effect from April 15, 2026, and remain in force until May 14, 2026, marking another adjustment in the cost of fuel that is likely to affect transport and overall living expenses.
Currently, EPRA has set fuel prices at Sh178.28 per litre for Super Petrol, Sh166.54 for Diesel, and Sh152.78 for Kerosene. This is according to the March to April fuel review announced on March 14, 2026.
CS Wandayi assured MPs that consumers would not bear any financial burden from the disputed consignment and insisted that safeguards had been put in place to protect fuel pricing.
Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi has ordered a 60,000-tonne petrol cargo by One Petroleum Ltd out of Kenya, saying it breached the G-to-G framework and would raise pump prices by about Sh14 per litre.
The authority said the pricing decision was made in accordance with the Petroleum Act 2019 and existing petroleum pricing regulations that guide the calculation of maximum retail fuel prices in the country.
Wandayi addressed the concerns following claims by Ndindi Nyoro, the Kiharu Member of Parliament, who had questioned the G2G framework, suggesting it could compromise fuel availability and pricing. The CS described these allegations as misleading and unfounded.
The reduction comes after careful calculations by the regulator and will take effect from Sunday, February 15, running through to March 14.
The new prices will apply from January 15 to February 14, 2026, following a review conducted in line with the law.
