The disclosure came as lawmakers sought clarification on recent developments in the petroleum sector, including the controversial Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) consignment transported by the vessel MT PALOMA, which remains under investigation.
The new prices mean motorists in Nairobi will now pay Sh214.25 for a litre of Super Petrol, Sh242.92 for Diesel and Sh152.78 for Kerosene effective midnight for the next 30 days.
In Nairobi, Super Petrol will continue to retail at Sh184.52 per litre, Diesel at Sh171.47, and Kerosene at Sh154.78. The prices, which take effect from midnight, include the 16 per cent Value Added Tax, in line with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and updated excise duty rates as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
In its latest review released on Tuesday, EPRA said the cost of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will remain at Sh184.52, Sh171.47, and Sh154.78 per litre, respectively, in Nairobi.
He explained that each police station receives a monthly fuel allocation of 450 litres, which in most cases is depleted before the end of the month due to high operational demands.
The Association said the monthly reviews by the regulator have turned into a “circus” that keeps Kenyans unsettled and gradually conditions them to accept irregular and exploitative price hikes.
Fuel consumption in Kenya surged to a record 1.93 million tonnes in the first six months of 2025, up 9.4 percent from 1.76 million tonnes during the same period last year.
EPRA said the new rates, which apply from August 15 to September 14, 2025, were calculated in line with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act, 2019
