Speaking in Fulugani, Kwale County on Tuesday, Ruto said some people who publicly supported the refinery were working behind the scenes to stop it through legal action, accusing them of using “selfishness” and “extortionism” to undermine investors.
Speaking during the launch of the National Beyond 2030 Conversation on Wednesday, Kindiki said Kenya’s foreign exchange reserves had risen to $15.1 billion, the highest level in the country’s history, while inflation had moderated from 9.6 per cent to below six per cent.
According to Ruto, the government has strengthened the economy by stabilising the Kenyan shilling, increasing foreign exchange reserves to more than $15 billion, enough to cover 6.5 months of imports, while also lowering inflation and reducing the cost of borrowing.
The President said Kenya must openly examine why many countries that once shared similar economic conditions have advanced faster despite starting from nearly the same point.
Ruto said the government had stabilised the Kenyan shilling, increased foreign exchange reserves to more than $15 billion, equivalent to 6.5 months of import cover, while also reducing inflation and lowering borrowing costs.
Mediator Victor Emmanuel said mediation helps prevent, manage and resolve disputes and can rebuild relationships between governments, communities and organisations. He linked effective dispute resolution to investor confidence and urged broader ratification of the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
Speaking at the event, President Ruto emphasized that these investments are already underway, covering initiatives in rice and sugarcane production, electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing, and other sectors, and are expected to create over 63,000 quality jobs for Kenyans.
