Senator Cherargei explained during an interview at Radio Generation on Wednesday that payments from the National Treasury are often manipulated through a system known as voiding of payments, allowing governors to favor certain suppliers while leaving legitimate suppliers unpaid.
Cherargei said leaders often focus more on politics than delivering on development for the areas they represent.
Published in July 2025, the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025, proposes giving the Senate powers to initiate legislation, vet constitutional office holders, approve national budgets, and challenge decisions passed by the National Assembly.
The UDA Senator pointed out that this continuous political activity could be slowing down meaningful progress, as officials are constantly distracted by political considerations.
