Under the proposed plan, KEBS, together with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Interior ministry, intends to roll out a digital tracking system for all ethanol from import or production to final use. The system is meant to prevent diversion into illegal brewing.
In a statement by the National Police Service, the seizure was made by officers from Kogelo Police Station in Siaya Sub-County at Uuna area, within South East Alego Location, following an accident involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.
Officers attached to Shaurimoyo Police Station in Buruburu Sub-County conducted the operation on Saturday after receiving credible intelligence on the production and distribution of chang’aa in the area.
According to authorities, the intelligence-led operation targeted known hideouts of illicit brews and drugs, areas that have long posed a threat to public health and safety.
The Saturday evening raid was conducted by officers from Nanyuki Police Station, who said the recovered substance is suspected to be chang’aa.
