Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is set to lead a major Linda Mwananchi mobilisation tour in Nairobi today, culminating in a rally at Jacaranda Grounds as he seeks to strengthen the movement’s foothold in the capital.
According to the rally itinerary, the tour will begin at 9am with a church service at All Saints Cathedral, before Sifuna and his supporters move through some of Nairobi’s busiest markets and neighbourhoods.
From the cathedral, the movement is expected to proceed to Marikiti and Gikomba markets before heading to Burma Market. The procession will then move through Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja before joining Jogoo Road on the way to Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East.
Sifuna is expected to address supporters at Jacaranda at about 2pm alongside other Linda Mwananchi leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The Nairobi tour is being seen as a major test for Sifuna as he seeks to expand Linda Mwananchi’s support base and demonstrate that the movement can mobilise a significant following in the capital, traditionally considered an opposition stronghold.
Sifuna has urged his supporters to attend in large numbers, with his allies describing the event as the “mother of all rallies” for the Nairobi senator.
In a message shared on social media, Sifuna described the programme as a mix of prayer and political mobilisation.
“Programme ya Sunday ni fupi sana... kwanza maombi ndio Mungu aongezee mahasidi na wale wa roho mbaya confusion... alafu tuingie kiwanja pale Jacaranda. Excuse yako ni gani?” he said.
The rally comes after weeks of mobilisation by the political outfit, which has held meetings and rallies across several parts of the country as Sifuna positions himself as a potential major player in the opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement has drawn large crowds in several counties, while some opposition leaders have publicly backed Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.
The Nairobi event has nevertheless attracted political attention amid claims of possible disruption. United Opposition principal and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had alleged that ODM Nairobi chairman George Aladwa and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja were planning to interfere with the rally.
Aladwa denied the allegations and said ODM would not interfere with Linda Mwananchi’s activities.
“I wish to make our position as ODM Nairobi very clear. Linda Mwananchi is free to hold its rally and conduct its political activities in Nairobi,” he said.
The Nairobi rally follows mobilisation events held by Linda Mwananchi in Kajiado, Kakamega, Narok, Mombasa, Nakuru, Vihiga, Kisumu, Machakos, Thika, Kisii, Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Homa Bay and Meru.
