Several feared dead after matatu, saloon car collide near Syokimau

At least several people are feared dead after a PSV matatu and a saloon car collided along the road between Quiver Mombasa Road and Katani on Thursday night, August 20.

The two vehicles were extensively damaged in the crash and landed in a ditch, with preliminary reports indicating that they may have collided head-on.

The 18-seater matatu was badly wrecked, with heavy damage to its front section, including the windscreen and driver's cabin. The rear and driver's side of the vehicle also appeared to have caved in during the collision.

The black saloon car was also severely damaged and was seen lying head-first in the ditch, with its rear section hanging above the ground.

Preliminary reports indicated that the matatu was travelling towards Nairobi while the saloon car was heading towards Katani when the collision occurred.

Emergency response teams arrived at the scene to assist those involved in the accident.

However, the exact number of people who died or were injured had not been confirmed at the time of publication. It was also unclear how many people had been rescued from the wreckage.

The circumstances that led to the collision had not been established.
