Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the death of their eight-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.
Amal died on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
The family said she had battled health complications since birth and had received medical treatment both in Kenya and abroad.
"It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana," the statement read.
According to the family, Amal had battled health complications since birth and had received medical care both locally and outside the country.
Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris is among leaders who have sent messages of condolence to the family following Amal’s death.
Passaris described the loss as profound and painful, extending her heartfelt condolences to Senator Mungatana, Chidzuga and the entire family.
She said her thoughts and prayers were with the family during the difficult period, praying for God to grant them strength, comfort and peace as they come to terms with the loss of their daughter.
Passaris also urged the family to find solace in the memories of Amal and in the love and support of relatives, friends and the wider community.
"This is a profound and painful loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this difficult period. May the Almighty God grant you strength, comfort and peace, and sustain you through this moment of grief," Passaris said.
Amal will be laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Ngao Village in Tana River County.
