Samia reshuffles regional bosses, gives former MPs new roles

Two former MPs who failed to secure CCM tickets in the 2025 General Election have landed senior government positions after President Samia Suluhu Hassan made fresh changes to Tanzania’s regional leadership, appointing four new regional commissioners and transferring six others.

Former Misungwi MP Alexander Pastory Myeti has been posted to Geita as Regional Commissioner, while former Maswa East MP Stanslaus Haroon Nyongo has been appointed to lead Pwani Region.

The changes were announced on August 27, 2026, through a statement from Chief Secretary Ambassador Moses Kusiluka and signed by State House Director of Communications Bakari Machumu.

The two former legislators had sought to remain in Parliament by competing for CCM nominations before the 2025 General Election but were unsuccessful in the party primaries.

Myeti contested the CCM nomination for Misungwi Constituency in Mwanza Region in August 2025, where he lost to Slivery Luboja.

Myeti secured 3,249 votes, while Luboja won the contest with 9,684 votes.

He had entered Parliament in 2020 after defeating Charles Kitwanga, who was the sitting MP at the time. Myeti later served as Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries.

Nyongo also failed to secure the party ticket for Maswa East Constituency in Simiyu Region, a seat he had held for two terms since 2015.

He was defeated by Dr George Venance Lugomela during the CCM nominations held in August 2025.

His new appointment places him in charge of Pwani Region, while Myeti will oversee Geita.

President Hassan has also appointed CP Salum Rashid Hamduni as Mwanza Regional Commissioner. Hamduni previously served as the Shinyanga Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS).

Former deputy minister Jumanne Abdallah Sagini has also been appointed Mbeya Regional Commissioner.

The reshuffle has seen several serving regional commissioners take up new assignments across the country.

Martine Reuben Shigela has left Geita for Manyara, while Said Mohamed Mtanda has been moved from Mwanza to Simiyu.

Mtanda replaces Anamringi Macha, who has retired from the position.

Abubakar Mussa Kunenge has been transferred from Pwani to Songwe, where he takes over from Jabiri Omari Makame.

Makame will be given other duties following the changes.

Beno Moris Malisa has also been moved from Mbeya to Tabora, replacing Paul Matiko Chacha.

Chacha has since been appointed CCM National Executive Committee Secretary responsible for the Organisation Department.

Adam Kighoma Malima has moved from Morogoro to Lindi, replacing Zainab Telack, who has retired.

Queen Cuthbert Sendiga, meanwhile, has been transferred from Manyara to Morogoro.

The reshuffle has also brought changes to the Regional Administrative Secretary positions.

Richard Marcellino Kayombo has been appointed RAS for Pwani, while Balandya Mayuganya Elikana has moved from Mwanza to Mbeya.

Dr Fatuma Ramadhan Mganga has been transferred from Singida to Mwanza.

Pili Hassan Mnyema has moved from Pwani to Shinyanga, while Rodrick Lazaro Mpogolo has been transferred from Mbeya to Singida.

The government said the newly appointed regional commissioners and RASs will take their oaths of office on a date that will be communicated later.
