The Director of Public Prosecutions has told the High Court that it will present evidence linking former Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam and five other accused persons to the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang while in police custody.
In the opening of the murder trial on July 20, 2026, the prosecution claimed Ojwang was alive when he was brought to the station after his arrest but was found dead on the morning of June 8, 2025.
The State told the court it will rely on witness accounts, medical reports, forensic evidence and CCTV analysis to show how Ojwang died and what happened after his death.
Prosecutors said evidence from a post-mortem examination will challenge the initial police account that Ojwang died after hitting his head inside the cell, arguing that the injuries were inconsistent with that explanation.
The DPP said the court will hear testimony from Ojwang’s family, arresting officers, transport officers and medical experts as the State seeks to prove that his death was not accidental.
The prosecution also alleges there were attempts to interfere with evidence, including CCTV footage, after the incident.
Talaam and the five other accused persons have denied the murder charge.
