Questions have emerged over the death of a police officer who was found with a gunshot wound inside a locked communication room at Kisii Central Police Station, only hours after reporting back to work from leave. Investigators are now piecing together her final movements as they seek to establish what led to the incident.
Marjori Bosibori, 42, had resumed duty on Monday and was assigned to guard a supermarket in Kisii town. Police said she carried out her duties normally throughout the day and showed no unusual behaviour while interacting with fellow officers before returning to the station after midnight.
Kisii Central Sub-county Police Commander Musa Imamai said Bosibori arrived at the station with another officer after completing their assignment. She informed her colleague that she was going to the washroom, but instead walked into the communication room, locked the door from the inside and remained there.
Her absence only came to light on Tuesday morning when another officer attempted to access the communication room and found it locked. The door was forced open, revealing Bosibori seated on a chair with a gunshot wound to the chest. An AK-47 rifle was found beside her.
“We found her body in a sitting position with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Preliminary findings indicate the bullet exited through her back,” Imamai said.
Police recovered the rifle, one spent cartridge, a magazine loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, the office key, three mobile phones and assorted medication from the room.
Imamai said detectives were investigating every possible angle to establish the circumstances surrounding the officer's death. Among the issues under review are whether personal or family matters could have contributed to the incident.
The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
