NACADA seizes suspected drugs in South B operations

A NACADA-led multi-agency team has arrested two suspects and seized suspected narcotics and prescription drugs during intelligence-led raids in South B, Nairobi, as authorities step up efforts to disrupt the sale and distribution of drugs in the capital.

The two operations were carried out along Plains View Road in South B, Starehe Sub-County, targeting a shop suspected of being involved in drug-related activities.

Officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the National Police Service and South B Police Station recovered several rolls and 101 small polythene sachets containing dry plant material suspected to benarcotics.

The team also seized Rizla papers, a digital weighing scale and other items during the operation.

In a separate raid within the same neighbourhood, officers recovered more rolls containing similar plant material as they continued with the crackdown.

The seized items were taken to Muthaiga Police Station, where they were secured and booked as exhibits. The two suspects remained in police custody pending their arraignment in court.

NACADA Legal Services Director Leackey Illa, who led the operations, warned people involved in drug trafficking and those supporting such activities that the Authority would intensify action against criminal networks.

"All drug traffickers and their associates have been put on notice. The Authority is coming for them," said Illa.

He said NACADA was also working with residents to identify people involved in drug-related crimes and protect communities from the effects of alcohol and substance abuse.

"We are working closely with the community to identify and root out criminals from society to ensure that our communities are protected from the negative effects of alcohol and drug abuse."

Illa urged residents to continue providing information to authorities, saying public cooperation remains important in efforts to fight narcotics.

The South B raids were carried out after authorities received actionable intelligence, highlighting the role of information from members of the public in helping enforcement teams disrupt drug supply networks.

NACADA has continued with enforcement operations across the country, with increased attention on Nairobi, which accounts for a significant share of drug consumption.

The Authority said its teams would remain active in different parts of the country as it continues efforts to protect communities from the effects of drugs and substance abuse.

Members of the public have been urged to report suspicious activities to NACADA through its social media platforms or the free helpline 1192.
