Murang’a County has opened up large-scale investment opportunities to private investors as it steps up plans to turn the region into an industrial hub, create more jobs and help farmers earn more from their produce.
The county is inviting investors into manufacturing, agro-processing, ICT and innovation, healthcare, infrastructure, tourism and renewable energy, with land and commercial spaces available through several projects being developed across the county.
At the centre of the investment drive is the Murang’a Industrial Park opposite Makenji, a 1,300-acre development along the Nairobi-Embu Highway that is planned to bring together manufacturing, healthcare, technology, commercial activities, housing, education and recreation.
The county’s investment guide has set aside sections of the park for an Export Processing Zone and a Special Economic Zone. The proposed Special Economic Zone will include a 75-acre medical city, 276 acres for light, medium and heavy industries and 23 acres for a technology and innovation hub, alongside other facilities.
The county is also marketing the 29-acre County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) at Zabka near Kabati in Maragua Constituency, about 35 kilometres from Nairobi's central business district.
The Zabka park is focused on agriculture-based manufacturing, with opportunities for processing, packaging and value addition. Four manufacturing sheds, each covering 4,000 square metres, are being developed on part of the site, while another 19 acres have been set aside for new investors.
Murang’a is also seeking investors for the Gikono Landfill, where opportunities have been identified in recycling, organic fertiliser production and energy generation.
Other opportunities are available through SME industrial parks in Maragua, Kiharu, Kangema, Kandara and Kigumo. Investors can also seek commercial space on the upper floors of modern markets being handed over to the county.
The investment campaign is built around agriculture, with the county seeking to use its strong agricultural production as a source of raw materials for manufacturing and agro-processing.
The plan is aimed at creating a stronger link between farmers and larger markets while encouraging investment in industries that can process agricultural products within the county.
In a notice on Tuesday, the county said the wider plan was intended to raise farmers’ incomes, improve living standards and increase its own-source revenue.
“The Murang'a County Government is committed to industrialising the county, creating jobs, and enhancing opportunities for value addition to its diverse agricultural products. The ultimate goal is to increase farmers' incomes, improve the overall standard of living for residents, and boost the county's own-source revenue.”
Investors interested in the opportunities have until October 30, 2026, to submit their proposals and pay a non-refundable application fee of Sh20,000.
Those who are successful will be offered 99-year renewable leases. They will have to make full payment within four weeks after being notified and start developing their allocated plots within six months.
Under the latest offer, industrial land is available at a stand premium of Sh7 million per acre, together with an annual rent of Sh280,000.
Other zones at the industrial park have a stand premium of Sh6.4 million per acre and annual rent of Sh256,000.
The investment push follows Murang’a’s first investment conference held in June 2025 under the theme of unlocking the county’s potential as an industrial hub.
The conference brought together investors, government representatives, private-sector players and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities in industrialisation, agriculture, technology, healthcare, tourism and waste management.
The county is also pursuing registration of the Industrial Park with the Special Economic Zones Authority. If secured, the registration could give successful investors access to incentives, including tax reliefs.
Murang’a is continuing with efforts to attract more investors ahead of its second Investors’ Dinner, which is scheduled for September 25, 2026, at the Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi.
