MP Ndindi Nyoro quits UDA, joins People’s Party of Kenya

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced that he and his supporters have joined the opposition under the People’s Party of Kenya, months after confirming his exit from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a statement issued on Monday, Nyoro said the move marked a new chapter in his political career and called on Kenyans to consider the party as part of efforts to build a united opposition ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

“For avoidance of doubt, I know you all know we left government long time ago, and we no longer associated with the wheelbarrow Party, the UDA,” he said.

He then made his political affiliation clear, saying: “Mimi kama Ndindi Nyoro na wafuasi wangu kutoka leo nimeingia chama inaitwa People's Party of Kenya.”

Nyoro said the party’s membership had given him the opportunity to advance his political agenda and confirmed that it had joined the opposition.

“All the membership of the People's Party of Kenya, we have today joined the opposition,” he said.

He urged Kenyans to consider the party when evaluating political leaders ahead of the next election.

“I also ask humbly the people of Kenya, mkiangalia viongozi wale watapeleka Kenya mbele from next year,I also ask humbly the people of Kenya muangalie pia the People's Party,” he said.

Nyoro said he had spent considerable time consulting opposition leaders before making the decision.

He named Peter Munya, Martha Karua, James Orengo, Edwin Sifuna, Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka among those he had met.

He also said he had held lengthy consultations with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, whom he said he had consulted for almost a year.

The Kiharu MP said his party would open its platforms to opposition presidential aspirants as it seeks to promote unity.

“In all the People's tours, that is the People's Party tours, all the aspirants of the opposition are invited any time,” he said.

Nyoro also pledged to provide mentorship and training to candidates seeking elective positions under the party.

“I'll be at the forefront of offering them advice and mentorship and trainings, so that as we recalibrate our country, we also have credible leaders in our wards, in our constituencies, and in our counties,” he said.

He said he would travel across the country, including to Nyanza, the Coast, North Eastern, Rift Valley and Mount Kenya, to mobilise support.

Nyoro’s announcement comes after he said in June that he needed three to four weeks to explain his political direction and vision for Kenya.
