Muthaiga Golf Club has shut its Front Nine after the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) took control of the section covering Holes No. 2 to No. 9, claiming the area is part of Karura Forest.
The move has cut off members from eight holes as the club’s management engages KFS in an effort to resolve the dispute and restore access to the affected section.
In an internal memo to members dated Tuesday, September 15, 2026, club chairman Dennis Mwirigi said KFS had moved into the course and restricted access to the Front Nine.
“KFS is purporting that this section of the course falls within Karura Forest,” he said.
Mwirigi said the club’s board had taken up the matter and was working to have the situation resolved as quickly as possible.
“The Board is seized of the matter and is trying their level best to resolve the situation as urgently as possible,” he said.
Until the dispute is settled, members will not be allowed to use the affected holes.
“In the meantime, the Front Nine (Holes No. 2-9) is NOT available or accessible for members’ use until further notice,” the chairman said.
The club did not explain the basis of KFS’s claim over the section or provide details on the boundaries at the centre of the dispute. It also did not give a timeline for when members could regain access to the eight holes.
Muthaiga Golf Club, however, said other parts of its facilities remained available to members despite the dispute.
“Please note that the Range and parking is not affected,” Mwirigi said.
The chairman apologised to members for the disruption and appealed for patience as the board continues discussions aimed at resolving the matter.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation as the Club works to resolve this matter,” he said.
The dispute has brought into focus questions surrounding the boundaries of land administered as part of Karura Forest, while leaving the club unable to offer members access to a substantial section of its course.
For the time being, members will have to play without Holes No. 2 to No. 9 as the club seeks to reach an agreement with KFS and restore access to the Front Nine.
