After winning 12 medals on the opening day of the third leg of the 2026 four-part Rafting World Cup Series, Kenya added eight more medals on the second day of competition at Rapids Camp, Sagana, in Murang'a County.
Hosts Kenya fielded five teams comprising 56 athletes in the men's, women's and mixed categories. The squad was selected from more than 128 athletes from across the country.
"The trials showed us that we have a lot of talent, especially among the youth, with most of the participants being under 23 years. That is the largest category of our athletes," said Kenya Rafting Federation President June Muthoni ahead of the championships.
Kenya continued its strong performance from Friday, with the men's team winning bronze in the World Cup RX (Rafting Cross) event behind silver medallists Italy and champions Czech Republic.
The Kenyan women's team also claimed bronze, finishing behind Neutral Athletes (Russia), who took silver, and Italy, who won gold.
In the Para Rafting category, Team Kenya secured silver behind Italy, the only other competing nation, which claimed gold.
In the African Championships, Kenya maintained its dominance in both the men's and women's events.
The Kenyan women's teams completed a clean sweep by occupying the top five positions. In the men's race, Kenya won gold and bronze, while Morocco claimed silver.
In the mixed category, Uganda emerged as surprise champions, taking gold, with Kenya winning silver and bronze. Kenya also fielded the only para rafting team in the African Championships, automatically securing the gold medal in that category.
The competition concluded on Saturday with the Slalom event, where 61 teams battled for the final honours of the third leg of the 2026 Rafting World Cup Series. The event featured competitors from 18 countries, with athletes representing 35 nations across the championships.
