Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announces full resumption of normal flight operations

Kenya’s airports have resumed normal flight operations following the full resumption of Air Traffic Control services, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced.

In a statement on September 1, 2026, KAA said all airports across the country were operating normally, with both arriving and departing flights being facilitated across its airport network.

“KAA wishes to inform the public that all our airports are operating normally, following the full resumption of Air Traffic Control services,” the authority said.

The update comes as KAA works with aviation stakeholders to progressively restore flight schedules and ensure the smooth movement of passengers and cargo.

Between 3am and noon on Tuesday, Kenya’s major airports handled a total of 244 flights, comprising both arrivals and departures.

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) recorded the highest number of flights at 55 during the nine hour period.

Moi International Airport (MIA) in Mombasa handled 23 flights, while Wilson Airport recorded 140 flights.

Kisumu International Airport facilitated 12 flights, while Eldoret International Airport handled 14 flights.

The figures indicate continued activity across the country’s major aviation hubs as flight operations return to normal following the restoration of Air Traffic Control services.

KAA said its teams remain fully deployed to support safe, secure and efficient airport operations.

“The travelling public can continue to travel with confidence,” the authority said, adding that its airport teams were working to “facilitate safe, secure and efficient operations” while providing a seamless experience for customers.

The authority also urged passengers whose travel plans had been affected to remain in contact with their respective airlines for the latest flight information.

Travellers were further advised to confirm their arrangements with airlines before proceeding to the airport.

The advisory is intended to help passengers obtain the most recent information on flight schedules and avoid unnecessary disruption as airlines continue to adjust their operations.

KAA said it appreciated the patience, understanding and cooperation shown by passengers, airlines, cargo operators and the wider aviation community during the period.

The authority also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with aviation stakeholders as flight schedules are progressively restored.

“KAA continues to work closely with all aviation stakeholders to support the progressive restoration of flight schedules and ensure the smooth movement of passengers and cargo,” the statement said.

The resumption of normal operations covers both arriving and departing flights across the airport network.

KAA’s update provides assurance to travellers that airport operations are continuing while the authority and aviation stakeholders work to maintain smooth services.

Passengers planning to fly through Kenyan airports have been advised to continue checking with their airlines for the latest information and to confirm their travel arrangements before heading to the airport.

The authority said its airport teams would remain deployed to facilitate operations and support travellers.
