Kalonzo Musyoka has drawn a clear line ahead of the 2027 General Election, telling President William Ruto to deal with him directly while urging former President Uhuru Kenyatta to stay away from the unfolding political contest.
The Wiper Party leader said Uhuru should protect the legacy he built as Kenya’s fourth President by avoiding a political fight that could expose him to attacks as the country heads into another election.
“Mimi mwenyewe nimemshauri ndugu Uhuru Kenyatta akae kando. Yeye amewahi kuwa rais wa Jamhuri wa awamu ya nne, sitaki apakwe matope matope,” Kalonzo said.
Speaking to residents of Kakuyuni on Friday, August 14, 2026, Kalonzo said he had no problem taking on Ruto himself, signalling a more direct political confrontation as opposition mobilisation gathers pace.
“Ninamwambia, ‘Uhuru kaa kando, wacha Kalonzo afanye mundu ku mundu na huyu Ruto,” Kalonzo said.
His remarks came as he pushed the Komboa Kenya campaign into the Coast region, using the tour to rally support and lay out his position ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kalonzo also rejected efforts to place responsibility for the country’s problems on Uhuru, telling Ruto to turn his attention to him instead.
“Kwa hivyo hakuna haja, badala ya kulaumu Uhuru, laumu mimi, ambaye pia nakuelewa sana Bwana Ruto,” he said.
He said his familiarity with Ruto dates back to their earlier political interactions and relationship, suggesting he was well placed to take on the President in the coming political contest.
The Wiper leader also sought to defend Uhuru’s record in Kenya’s political history, while recalling his own experience serving as Vice-President during Mwai Kibaki’s presidency.
Kalonzo pointed to the period following the 2007-08 post-election violence, saying he travelled across the country and backed local efforts aimed at helping communities affected by the unrest.
He then turned his focus to the current administration, accusing the Ruto government of allowing corruption and the loss of public resources to reach levels he said Kenyans had not expected.
“Wizi umefikia kiwango ambacho hakuna ambaye alikuwa ananuia, aliyezaliwa Mkenya, kwamba unaweza kuiba mali ya umma kiasi na kiwango ambacho serikali ya Bwana Ruto imekamilisha,” he said.
Kalonzo further took aim at Ruto’s political future, declaring that the President would not secure a second term.
“Kwa hivyo yeye ni one term!” he said, prompting a strong reaction from his supporters.
The Wiper leader’s latest remarks add to his growing political mobilisation as he takes the Komboa Kenya campaign across the Coast and positions himself for the 2027 contest.
