Hermosa Paints is stepping up competition in Kenya's paints industry with a growing nationwide distribution network, expanded product range and increased investment in advanced coating technologies as it seeks to meet rising demand from the country's construction sector.
The Kenyan-owned manufacturer says it is strengthening its position by supplying premium decorative and protective paints, alongside specialised coating systems designed for homeowners, contractors, developers and other professionals in the building industry.
Speaking during a Radio Generation interview, Head of Business Leonard Sang said the company has established more than 10 depots across the country within only two years of starting production, a milestone he attributed to strong customer demand and strategic investment.
Sang said Hermosa Paints, whose headquarters are located at Road C, Highport Properties in Nairobi, was founded with the goal of providing innovative solutions for Kenya's construction industry rather than simply manufacturing paint.
He explained that the company's name, Hermosa, a Spanish word meaning "beautiful", reflects its commitment to delivering products that combine quality, durability and attractive finishes.
Although the company is still relatively young, Sang said its rapid growth has been driven by an experienced team drawn from different segments of the paint industry.
"Hermosa Paints is two years old in production, but we have professionals with 30 to 40 years of experience in paint production and distribution coming together to build this company."
Public Relations and Marketing Manager Nancy Kang'anya said the company has built an extensive distribution network that enables it to serve customers in different parts of the country.
"We have over 10 depots across the country, enabling us to reach contractors, homeowners, developers, project managers and professionals, including architects and quantity surveyors. Our head office is on Road C at Highport Properties, and we have depots in Machakos, Mombasa, Garissa, Kisumu, Meru, Nyeri, Kitale, Kisii, Nakuru and Eldoret."
Kang'anya said Hermosa has developed a diverse product portfolio comprising more than 1,000 stock keeping units to cater for different construction needs.
"We have an advanced range of products with over 1,000 stock keeping units, including decorative textures, decorative paints, flat paints, industrial coatings and advanced 3D self-levelling epoxy. We are also building international alliances for construction chemicals so that we can provide complete construction solutions from the building stage all the way to finishing."
She noted that the company's construction chemicals are designed to solve common building challenges before painting, including waterproofing, alkaline concrete and structural reinforcement, helping improve the lifespan of finished structures.
Sang said Hermosa has continued to distinguish itself by adapting quickly to customer demands while investing heavily in technology, research and product quality.
"We have positioned ourselves as a customer-centric brand that listens, supports and acts quickly by providing premium solutions for exterior paints, interior paints and advanced epoxy flooring. Our self-levelling epoxy has become one of the biggest discussions among contractors and dealers."
He said the response to the company's epoxy flooring products has surpassed initial projections because customers are increasingly looking for durable, low-maintenance and cost-effective flooring options.
"We anticipated demand would peak in one or two years, but we are already ahead of time. We are making epoxy pricing competitive with tiles so that more Kenyans can access the technology. What differentiates Hermosa Paints is how much we have invested in machinery, technology, testing and quality. You do not have to spend a lot to get a very high-quality paint."
The company says it will continue responding to changing market trends by investing in environmentally friendly products, expanding its product offering and introducing new technologies aimed at strengthening its presence in Kenya's growing construction industry.
