Gladdens Homes director charged over Sh28m housing scam

A Gladdens Homes Limited director has been taken to court over allegations that he collected Sh28 million from 22 people after promising them houses under a housing project that investigators say was fraudulent.

Bildad Nzuki Wambua appeared before the Makadara Law Courts on Wednesday and faced several charges of obtaining money by false pretences under Section 313 of the Penal Code, as well as money laundering.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives from Starehe Sub-County uncovered a scheme allegedly run by Wambua between 2024 and 2026 and targeting members of the public seeking to buy homes.

According to investigators, the victims were offered houses in different designs and sizes on Land Title No. Nairobi/Block A 40/474, under what was presented as the Urban Housing Renewable Development LPP project.

The victims allegedly paid money through Gladdens Homes Agency, a privately registered company linked to Wambua, after being persuaded by claims about the housing development.

Investigators said the payments made by the 22 victims eventually amounted to Sh28 million, which Wambua is accused of obtaining through false representations.

“The suspect is alleged to have operated a systematic scheme between 2024 and 2026, targeting unsuspecting members of the public,” the DCI said.

The prosecution opposed Wambua's release on bond, with the court expected to rule on his application today.

The case will next come up for mention on October 15, 2026.

The DCI has since asked anyone who may have entered into similar dealings with Wambua or Gladdens Homes Agency and believes they were defrauded to report the matter to its Starehe Sub-County offices.

The agency also urged members of the public to carry out proper checks before committing their money to property deals.

“Members of the public who may have entered into similar transactions with the accused or Gladdens Homes Agency, and believe they may have been defrauded, are urged to report to the DCI Starehe Sub-County offices for assistance and guidance,” the statement said.

The DCI further urged anyone who suspects they have fallen victim to fraud to report the matter to law enforcement agencies without delay.
